What's on your Christmas list?

Christmas for Capt. Larry came early, as he got everything on his list; grouper & snapper, of varying colors and type, sharks with the gnashing of teeth, & best of all-- AMBERJACK ACTION!

Above is the epitome of an AMBERJACK-ATTACK! Phil Cemer and Dave Mginnis (from left to right) both from Bradenton, with a greater amberjack they caught using a live pinfish, in about 125 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. Besides catching their limit of amberjacks, that party also hauled in a sizeable catch of gag and red grouper, plus some mangrove snappers. Now that's what Capt. Larry calls an offshore slam!

Amberjack action isn't just a man's sport... From left to right is Shelby and Mary Isaacson, holding a hefty Greater Amberjack caught using live pinfish in about 125 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. Both ladies were first time catchers of these Tampa Bay beasts, amberjack. As much fun as an Amberjack-Attack is, a Goliath Grouper is the perfect gift on a trip, as they have a fierce fight! Larry McGrudder (left) and Anthony Leveret hold a Goliath Grouper. After Larry caught the protected species of a fish, it was carefully vented and released-- alive. Larry was using a live pinfish and 60 lb test offshore of Anna Maria Island in about 95 ft, when the Goliath Grouper came to him, almost as if dropped down the chimney!
As the holidays draw near, if you aren't nearly as excited as you should be, get you and a friend(s) the gift of a genuine adventure, a Show Me The Fish Charter. An Amberjack-Attack sure beats another tie, or tools that wont give a fight like the Goliath Grouper above!

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, on 50 lb test line & get out there to catch some fish to stuff the stockings full!

Thanks,
Capt. Larry McGuire

Thanksgiving Us Much Fish...

It's been a bountiful autumn this year, with a cornicopia of different fish... An Amberjack attack, invasion of different kinds of groupers & snappers; delicious delights to fill our plates, to mix it up a bit from all of the turkey and other holiday fares.

What's better than turkey you ask? The amberjack pictured to the right, held by 11 yr old Matew Cemer from Bradenton. This was his first amberjack, caught using a live pinfish, in about 130 ft offshore on his first offshore trip. Matew also caught a multitude of grouper and snapper on a charter with Capt Larry.

Beyond bragging rights, the beautiful red grouper Dr.Janet Razze, of Holmes Beach caught & pictured below, is downright trophy sized! She caught this serious fish using a live pinfish in about 125 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island.
The party also caught red and gag grouper, and even had the opportunity to battle, catch and release a giant 100 lb Goliath Grouper (formerly called Jewfish). Check out the gorgeous American red snapper Shirley Orr- also of Holmes Beach, is pictured with below with... she caught this feisty fish on the same trip, all while targeting black grouper. Trips like the fishing charters pictured above are more than par for the course. It's shopping time for the upcoming holiday season, give yourself or someone you'd like to have the the gift that keeps giving a gift certificate from Show Me The Fish Charters... It'll be a memorable present, and a gift you can enjoy with the receiver!

Don't let the cold weather we've been having lately keep you off the water; the fish are still biting whether it's chilly or not. They didn't belly up to the table for Thanksgiving like many of us did, so go out there and give the fish something to chew on!

Thanks,

Gag Grouper & Kingfish Are Here!

Though you may only have one or two nice fishing days in between the cold fronts, this is one of Capt. Larry's favorite times of year, as the action is growing increasingly intense! On Show Me The Fish Charters they've been catching limits of gag grouper- plus snapper, kingfish, and Spanish mackerel, while using live and dead baits inside of 60 ft waters. On some days that's as far normal folks want to travel. On the days that we have a real strong east wind I recommend fishing along the beaches for the kingfish; you'll also find a plethora of large Spanish mackerel.Don't be surprised to encounter some decent sized sharks there feeding on the mackerels, even some big bull sharks.
Check out the kickin' kingfish caught by 9 yr old Charlie Bradbury, above. He was using a sardine on a flatline, and on that trip, the family also caught a heavy amount of grouper and a variety of snappers, while fishing in about 50 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island on a 4 hr trip with Capt Larry.
Another good back up plan for weather that doesn't allow one to go far out, is to fish the Tampa Bay shipping channel for gag grouper with fall about the best time to fish it. When there's finally a calm day, Capt. Larry still recommends going out
deeper- past 120 ft for the monster fish. There are some might fish out there, 20 lb plus red grouper, larger gags, monster mangrove snappers, cobia and amberjacks in those depths. During these fronts the strong wind and seas always pushes new fish into our areas ledges, rock piles and reefs.Even if an area may have been fished out before, the spot could be loaded up and the first boat that hits it gets the pot of gold. Larry Bethke is pictured to the left with his limit of gag grouper, caught with live pinfish in about 50 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island.

As of writing this report, the wind is blowing keeping us in port but it looks like the weekend should be a pretty sweet time to get out there. It all depends on the sea conditions as to how far Capt. Larry will travel... fortunately, this time of year the fish are everywhere. Capt. Larry knows they are out there for him, and he will be there for them once the weather clears. Don't miss the chance to tap into some of this action for yourself!

On this date, a Great Fisherman was Born...

Though it's finally cooling off and summer is officially over, the fishing action with Capt. Larry is getting hotter as the temperatures get colder! Check out Josh Riley, below, with his first kingfish. Josh caught this beast, recently with a sardine on a flatline during a family trip. He and family also caught grouper and snapper while on their charter.

Josh is clearly tickled pink by his first kingfish, as catching a large fish unlike others previously caught is an exciting thing in and of itself... not to mention they have that toothy, fearsome grin that has them often being confused w/ barracudas!

And to the left, is Christine Buffington, with her first amberjack, equally excited. She caught this feisty fish and a passel of other fish, while using pinfish in 150 ft, offshore of Anna Maria Island while fishing with Show Me The Fish Charters.

Though it wasn't his first red grouper, you can see the look of pure, unadulterated happiness beaming from Charles Constantino's face, as he holds his LARGEST red grouper he has ever caught, in the picture below! It was his first off Anna Maria Island. Charles was on a break from the Norwich Military Academy, and is now back in school and on his way to become another one of Americas great hero's Capt. Larry was glad he could show Charles a fantastic time out fishing, in appreciation for his laudable goals & aspirations.

A fishing trip is also a fun & out of the ordinary way to celebrate a birthday... Like the title of this posting suggests, today is Capt. Larry's birthday! If you have a moment, stop by his facebook and wish him a happy birthday. Feeling like you need some festivity in your life? Well, if you dont have a reason to celebrate, keep in mind you don't need a reason to fish! One of the best ways to add some joy to your life, or spend some time with your family or friends, is by going on a fishing trip that will make awesome memories that your family will cherish & tell stories about for years to come!

Pre & Post Storm Fishing

On Show me The Fish Charters, we had massive catches both before the weather turned inclement, with hurricane Irene in the works, and as well as after. They caught an outrageous amount of , amberjack, mangrove and yellowtail snappers, porgies, sharks, & catch and release red snapper, a variety of groupers; gag, red groupers- up to 28 lbs, and Goliath grouper. To the right, is a decent sized cobia, caught using a live pinfish in about 100 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. On this trip a large school of cobia swam up the boat, and Capt. Larry cast a bait into the school, and immediately the fight was on!

Fishing in 130 to 140 ft on my full day trips, are what gets the largest red grouper results, using live and cut baits. The grouper seem to always know when the bad weather is on its' way, usually better than the weather forecaster. Before the storm, they feed like crazy and batten down the hatches in the rocks to ride the storm out. The hurricanes also move more fish around and bunch them up into the ledges and rock piles. Check out the alien puffer fish posted below & to the left, caught shortly after the storms! Evie Devries is holding this odd sea creature- straight out of Lovecraft novel, & boldly having fun with the puffer fish she caught while on a family trip. They also caught grouper and snapper while on the charter, and overall had a great time.

The first boats that fish the post-storm reefs will run into a gold mine of grouper and snapper, which has been a good portion of the action Capt. Larry's charters hit. Coming weekends may be to rough to fish offshore, but as the gulf calms early in the week, it will be time to come out to the depths of the gulf and get yourself some intense deep sea fishing!

Thanks,

Living the Dream!

Ever had something you've imagined doing, that you know would be one of the most amazing experiences of your life? For one family, such a moment became reality on Capt. Larry's boat! The family had seen pictures here on Capt. Larry's website of his parties swimming with these serious, epically sized fish, and dreamed of having their own Goliath grouper adventure... fortunately for them, they moved forward with plans to go on a Show Me The Fish Charter and ended up living their dream! Check out the Goliath grouper below, approximately 350 lbs, caught by C.L. Fisher and sons Breccan, Keenan, Bradey offshore of Anna Maria Island in about 130 ft waters.

The family was excited enough while catching amberjacks & snappers, but then the afternoon's awesomeness cranked up a few more notches when this behemoth started eating their catches. Subsequently, Capt. Larry brought out the heavy equipment, and decided on using a 9/0 senator reel, 200 lb test, baseball bat rod & a large mullet for bait... and SO THE BATTLE WAS ON! It took three of them, including Capt. Larry, taking turns on the rod while fighting the monster to bring it in, but any true sports fisherman will agree that the harder the skirmish to get a fish off the bottom (and often in some rocks, as those are plentiful with a myriad of delicious fish), out of the water & into the boat... the more difficult that process is, the more rewarding the catch & subsequent dinner item! Take a closer look at the close up below-
Congrats to the Fisher family on their Goliath grouper, which was just the crowning gem among their treasure of a total catch that day. Want to take your family on an adventure to swim with the beasts of the Gulf of Mexico? Or, are you looking to go out with friends- or solo for the heartiest of fishermen... and have the fight of your life with a fish that looks straight off a Sci-Fi movie? For many, it's living the dream- though their definition of the dream might be different!

Offshore Fishing Hotter Than the Temperature!

The heat hasn't kept Capt. Larry's parties out of the water! Lately, they've been catching a massive amount of enormous firetruck red grouper, limit-plus catches of amberjack, mangrove and yellowtail snappers, porgies, large sharks, and even a kingfish this week!

To the right is a monster red grouper, caught by Justin Tsikererdanos from Kissimmee. This beast was caught offshore of Anna Maria Island in 130 ft using a sardine for bait. Capt. Larry's charters are even catching (and carefully releasing) multitudinous amounts of gag grouper and red snappers, without even targeting them- due to their season closure. Live and cut bait are both working great for the charters. Capt. Larry recommends going deep in this summer heat, and starting out in 125 ft to 150 ft for those big red grouper. It seems like they are always on fire in the late summer and it's probably the best time of the year to catch them.

Below is Harold Gaw from Lakeland, with his largest red grouper of his life. Harold caught the trophy using a pinfish in about 140 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. Harold and friends also caught more grouper and amberjack on their charter with Capt. Larry.

Tip of the week: Targeting those huge red grouper try drifting on some hard bottom I call Swiss cheese with a couple of different large live and dead baits then mark your spot when you hook one up and go back and anchor. You might just hit the mother load of these monsters and have a trip of a life time like Capt. Larry has been having. Always keep a flatline out for the pelagic species like kingfish, wahoo, blackfin tuna, and mahi mahi. This is shark week and we usually celebrate by catching a few big sharks. Safety tip always stay hydrated drinking lots of water and fluids, you will need it fighting all those fish this summer; Fish and be happy.

Fish Like You Mean It!

Seems like there's been an immense amount of Wahoo action going on while fishing with Capt. Larry. Here he is pictured below holding a Wahoo while on one of his charters. It's been an intense time out there, and Capt. Larry has been making the most of each moment he can get out on the water.Below is a very happy Patricia Acero from Palm Harbour, FL. She's holding a tasty treat of a gag grouper she caught and released while the party was catching red snapper and red grouper back to back. During the bedlam, Capt. Larry and his charter were fishing offshore in about 130 ft off Anna Maria Island.Sick of hearing about budget shortages?! Well, there's no shortage out here of gags! Below is Robert Alverez from Tampa, with a monster gag grouper he caught and carefully released, using a sardine in 155 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. Robert and party caught many more gags (all released), red groupers, mangrove snapper and tasty red snapper fishing during their trip of a lifetime.
Are you ready for your trip of a lifetime? Ready to come back off the gulf with some pictures to share with your friends & family, and possibly end up on this website showing off your great catch? Well, today is the day to schedule a charter to accomplish all of that and much more with up to 5 of your favorite fishing buddies or family... remember, an offshore fishing charter is the perfect time to bond, celebrate and catch something to be proud of!

Who needs Cheeseburgers When You Can Have Wahoo In Paradise?

Wahoo! It's been a great time out there fishing in paradise! Capt. Larry loves to support law enforcement, and had the opprotunity to recently by showing them a great time fishing. The Catch of the Week goes to Josh Phillips, from Lakeland. He's pictured below, next to first mate Anthony, with a great wahoo he caught using a sardine, in about 125 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. In the group shot below, from left to right is Brian Phillips, Josh Phillips, and John Phillips from Lakeland, with very nice red grouper, red snapper and wahoo. These were caught fishing with sardines in 125 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island with Capt Larry

The day started out heading far offshore, closing in on one specific area Capt. Larry knows to have prodigious amount of fish. Almost immediately they saw a school of Mahi-Mahi & on the bottom, they found a sizable area of large red snappers and huge red grouper. The party was in the midst of catching many of them when the wahoo came to the back of the boat. First mate Anthony kept him happy by feeding him bits of bait until Capt. Larry got a flat line ready and all the grouper rods out of the way. A sardine was thrown the wahoo's way, Josh jumped on it... and the fight was on. An hour later, there a wahoo in the boat! Josh is a deputy with the Osceola Sheriffs office and was on a special trip with his dad and three brothers.

Also while on a family trip, Colin Grooms of Bradenton, pictured above with his first red snapper that he caught using a sardine in about 150 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. Colin also caught his first Mahi Mahi that same day, as well as red grouper, monster mangrove snapper, and sharks with his dad, Barry Grooms, and Capt Larry.

Life is good when you're fishing in a good spot... come on out and see for yourself how fantastic the fishing is. Don't worry, be happy!

Bachelor Party on the Beach!

The offshore action has been absolutely awesome this week, and actually the previous six weeks, have all been phenomenal. The extraordinary trips Capt. Larry has been taking his charters on, have been coming back flush with red snapper, now that the season is open. On Show Me The Fish Charters, anglers are working depths from 125 ft to 160 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key catching lots of firetruck red grouper- up to 25 lbs, mahi-mahi, plentiful porgies, large sharks, toothy barracudas, & catch and release gag grouper. . Live and cut bait all producing.
The big boy fish have been poppin' offshore. Pictured above is Parker Dalla (left), serving in the US Air Force, and David Kiel (right), a Marine, holding a nice blacktip shark they caught. These warriors were in town for Parker's wedding on the beach, and also caught more sharks, amberjacks, red and mangrove snappers and a bonus of 48 large flag yellowtail snappers... all while fishing in about 170 ft.

To the right is Catch of the Week! It's a patriotic American Red Snapper, held & caught by 12 yr old Rocky Finerty, from Wilmington Delaware. On that trip, they caught their limit of red snappers, a pair of 7 lb mangrove snappers, grouper and amberjack. Rocky carries his name very well, as he was Capt. Larry's "Go To" man on that trip. Note: Capt. Larry specializes in helping the inexperienced, children, ladies 'out fish' the men on the trip that HAVE fished before.

Now is as good of a time as any, to come out and get a piece of this action for yourself... Don't miss out!

Fireworks exploding on offshore action

On Show Me The Fish Charters, parties are watching explosions of all American amberjacks, kaleidoscopes of kingfish, roaring red snapper (& vermilion with voracious appetites), robust red grouper, monstrous mangrove snappers, along with powerful porgies, salacious sharks, and barracudas big enough to boast over. Stare into the mouth of the barracuda Rokey Vious Williams holds ... IF YOU DARE! It was his 1st barracuda ever, and caught with a tube lure 15 miles offshore Anna Maria.

Like the rockets red glare, and bombs bursting in air, Capt. Larry's trips gave proof that the fishing is blowing up off of both Longboat Key & Anna Maria Island, around 150 ft. Sardines are what the fish are salivating for, but live and cut bait both are bringing in a plentiful parade of fish.

How many red snapper have you caught this year? Whatever the answer, it's probably not enough; remember, American red snapper go out of season July 19 12:01 am! Soon, it will be too late to get what are some of the tastiest fish in the gulf, so now is the time to get as much red snapper as possible...Capt. Larry's Tip of the week-> Freeze any extra red snapper by adding enough water to fully cover the fish in a ziplock bag & make sure all of air is out of the freezer bag. This ensures you have red snapper to fill your frying pans to make it through until the season opens again.
Capt. Larry hopes your 4th of July was fun F squared; fish & fireworks! Happy Independence Day everyone!

Make Fishing Time, Family Time

Capt. Larry's parties are getting patriotic with great catches of American red snapper and red grouper, along with mangrove and yellowtail snappers, amberjack, huge porgy's, kingfish, barracudas and large sharks. The best action is offshore of Anna Maria Island & Longboat Key, in about 140 ft. Both live and cut bait are working awesomely, as well as squid, with smaller pinfish actually bringing in the greatest results... it's like feeding candy to a baby! We have had a perfect week of weather and it looks like more fantastic fishing weather to come. It'll be a holiday weekend, which is a spectacular opportunity for a family trip.... it allows you to bond with your family, while getting some sweet fishing action in, which might even lead to some delicious treats to grill up & share! Karen Decker from Orlando took her sons out with Capt. Larry, so he could teach them how to fish! The proud Momma is pictured above with an amberjack she caught in about 115 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island, using a butterfly jig. As evidenced from 10 yr old Sean Decker to the right, Capt. Larry was a good teacher & they truly learned something! Sean is holding a nice amberjack he caught, and if his happy grin is any indicator, he had the time of his life doing it!

13 yr old Mattew Decker (below), shows us that he too was an apt pupil in Capt. Larry's school of fishing. He scored a decently sized amberjack caught also using a butterfly jig, while 115 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island.
Show Me the Fish's guests are also catching (and releasing) gag grouper and Goliath grouper. Barracudas and many school dolphin are also par for the course. On another trip, Capt. Larry's close friend & fishing buddy caught a 35 lb blackfin tuna that ended up on the grill. Also, if you haven't done so already, Show Me The Fish is now on facebook, be sure to like the page & suggest it to your fishing buddies! Fish, be happy & have a safe fourth of July!

Seeing Red, They're Fishing so Hard

Capt. Larry's parties are seeing lots of red with limit catches of beautiful red snapper and firetruck red grouper. They have been going deep, starting out in about 120 ft and ending up in 150 ft for the best bites. To the right is 13 yr old Lucas Bush from Bradenton, holding his first red snapper. Lucas caught it on a family fishing trip, using a sardine in 130 ft waters offshore of Anna Maria Island. The party also caught a bounty of grouper and their limit of red snappers, as well as those monstrous mangrove snappers everyone is after this time of the year.

Always keep lots of rods rigged up with artificials for pure mayhem when the mahi-mahi show up. When they stop hitting one bait or lure, be sure to change to another to keep the party going. Keeping at least one in the water always keeps the school at the boat. Lately, the mahi-mahi have been loving Capt. Larry's parties so much they hang out there until everyone is tired. It's a beautiful thing to watch!

Below is Bob Wilson from Ft. Myers with a very fierce red grouper he caught using a sardine in 145 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island.
Do you want to see red too? Whether you prefer red grouper or snapper, the reds are out there waiting to be caught, be part of the action by joining Capt. Larry's next fishing charter! Can't get out fishing just yet? Join Capt. Larry on facebook & see pictures of the fishing good times ASAP!

So THAT'S what he's talking about...

Just like the temperatures, offshore action is on fire! Capt. Larry's parties are burning up their reels with the immense amount of fish that have been biting.... They've been catching almost everything this time of the year, from gag and red grouper, to kingfish, Spanish mackerel, cobias, and that wonderful variety of snappers- amberjack, mangrove, yellowtail and lane snappers. Best of all, the parties have been getting what the tourists love to catch most of all- SHARKS! If you missed the post about the most recent bull shark caught on Capt. Larry's boat, check it out here! The blacktip shark below, though of a different kind & smaller is still a fish you would not want to be caught swimming with! From left to right is Lydia Beachum and Judie Beachum, posing with blacktip sharks they caught about 7 miles offshore of Anna Maria Island, using on pinfish. Lydia shows us that it doesnt matter how big or small you are, you can still catch a massive beast of a fish... or two!
Further proving that size doesn't matter, the kingfish below is proudly being held by 11 yr old Harry Duxbury, visiting all the way from England! It was Harry's first kingfish, and was caught with a sardine in about 40 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. Certainly much different waters than what he is accustomed to; Capt. Larry was pleased he could help make a lasting impression of what fishing in America is REALLY like!

The action heats up quickly, starting at 40ft to 70 ft for the kings. Capt. Larry's summer plan of action is anchoring up on a honey hole he knows from past experience to be loaded with grouper and snapper, to catch the multitude of tasty bottom fish, and follow that up by deploying a chum block... from there, all Capt. Larry and his party's need to do is stand at the ready on the flat lines & wait for the king mack attack!

TIP OF THE WEEK: Someone asked Capt. Larry recently "How do you find as many kingfish on a regular basis?" He jokes that they don't look for smoker kings, THEY LOOK FOR US! But in all seriousness., with a good chum slick on the waters, the kingfish really do come looking for you. Once the kings are around the boat, Capt. Larry's parties catch them on spoons, gotcha lures and variety of live bait- i.e. blue runners & cigar minnows as dessert to keep the kingfish around for the whole meal, and to keep them jumping in the boat! On a recent trip, a huge kingfish was hiding under the boat trying to eat our Spanish mackerel while it was being reeled in. Capt. Larry truly made lemonade out of lemons by sending the mackerel back out on a stinger rig with larger hooks.... and THEN it was on! End result: a 35 lb smoker screaming the reel, and later in the boat. In Capt. Larry's own words: "That's what I am talking about!"

To find out more what Capt. Larry's talking about, "like" Show Me The Fish on facebook, and to experience the extreme fishing action for yourself, call or email Capt. Larry to arrange a charter for you and your bro's.

No Bull... It's a Bull Shark!

Capt. Larry started off June with a bang, by gracing the cover of Woods n Water magazine, which can be viewed here or picked up at a gas station like Circle K! Also, Show Me The Fish Charters is now on facebook, so "like" it to keep your finger on the pulse of Capt. Larry's sweet fishing action!

Speaking of some fantastic fishing action, On May 10th, John Fordham from Bradenton caught a humongous bull shark, that conservatively measured about 9 ft, and was around the 300 lb range... The fight for this beast lasted no less than 3 hrs on 60 lb test, while using a live 2 lb blue runner for bait, fishing in about 90 ft waters offshore of Anna Maria Island. John managed to wrangle it to the boat for a photo shoot. Those of you who enjoy swimming on our fine gulf coasts keep an eye out, as this bull shark was released alive, to fight (or bite) another day!

While on the subject of monsters, check out the monster gag grouper below, around 25 lbs, that Mary Johnson (also of Bradenton) caught in 40 ft, approximately 7.5 miles offshore of Anna Maria Island, fishing with a sardine for a tasty treat the grouper apparently enjoyed quite a bit! Mary's party also caught massive amounts of mackerel, snapper, other groupers, & kingfish (click here to see Mary with her king of a kingfish), on a unbelievable 4 hr charter with Capt Larry. Though the trip only lasted four hours, the memories that Mary made, not to mention John with his beast of a bullshark, will last a lifetime! For the firetruck red grouper, the best bite is out about 130 ft, using large pinfish. If you get bored when the grouper bite slows, Capt. Larry finds downsizing his tackle to 25lb test and changing the bait to sardines... that will lead to all-you-can-eat-snappers! During spring and early summer, anything can happen; this is can include, but certainly not limited to catches of speckled trout- up to the limit, which are heartily available in the bay, Spanish mackerel all the way down the beaches, as well as everything that's hitting offshore of Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key. This is the perfect time of the year for a variety of fish, so don't spend this beautiful weather inside, come out, bait up & GET YOU SOME!

Thanks,

Abundance of Amberjacks

While operating out of his new & improved location, the Bradenton Beach Marina, Capt. Larry and his fishing parties have been catching their limits of amberjacks, while going offshore, out past 100 ft on the wrecks, springs and large ledges. There, they also find monster mangrove snappers, along with a smattering of yellowtail snappers, cobias, big sharks, and impressive red groupers. Check out Mike Romano below with his first amberjack caught using a live pinfish in about 120 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. That same party also caught more amberjacks, grouper and a cooler heaping full of mangrove and yellowtail snappers.
The amberjacks have been so thick, Capt. Larry's charters have practically been beating them off with a stick! Check out George Cummings from Anna Maria Island with his epic amberjack he caught using a live pinfish in about 120 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. George and party was on a charter during a scorcher of a day, and it seems the hotter the weather, the hotter the fishing action!
Inside 9 nautical miles [state waters] you'll be in the midst of a myriad of keeper gag grouper, plus some monsters mixed in to toughen you up. It's important this time of year to always keep a flat line out with a large, live bait. Last week Alex Simard, fishing here all the way from Italy, hooked up a serious sailfish on a live blue runner on the free line. It's a common occurence during the summer, make sure you aren't caught with an empty flat line, or- even worse, no flat line at all! So folks, keep your lines tight while the weather is paradise, because life is good, fishing is fantastic... NOW is the time to come on out and get ya' some of this awesome action!

Thanks,
Capt. Larry McGuire

King[fish] of the Sea

One of Capt. Larry's favorite fish to catch is by far kingfish... they put up a hearty fight, make for impressive pictures, and though it's not the best fish to eat, it does indeed have a distinct taste. Below is Eathan Way with an awesome example of the might King[fish] of the sea he caught recently. He was using a sardine in about 50 ft waters, offshore of Anna Maria Island. That same party also caught more kings, a variety of groupers, as well as snapper while on their charter.Even the fire chief of Ephraim, Wisconsin, Niles Weborg, got into the spirit of KINGFEST by catching the beast you see below. Chief Weborg was also selected as the "pic of the week", and duly so! Niles was using a sardine in about 70 ft waters, offshore of Anna Maria Island. Capt. Larry has been finding that frozen sardines have been working exceptionally well lately, to catch up to the limit of a wide variety of fish, ESPECIALLY the kingfish. During that same charter Chief Weborg went on, the party also caught many more kings, but a nice mixture of groupers & snapper. The larger red grouper and red snapper are out past 130 ft currently. Though live pinfish have been bringing in mountains of fish lately, it's still efficacious & a sure-fire bait to start out with frozen sardines as you're getting the party started. Bottom fishing has been "the place" to hit an immense amount of amberjacks; seems that's where they have been hanging out, but no place is safe from a Capt. Larry charter! Below is Fritta Crotty, with a nice-sized Kingfish she caught using a sardine in about 40 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island.
Even though his location has changed, Capt. Larry's results are the same... he leads his charters out to the right place, at the right time, to bring in an epic catch. In a nutshell: fishing is fantastic, life is good, & now is the time to come on out and get your fat grouper and snapper for your next BBQ, all while experience the trip of a lifetime!

Thanks,
Capt. Larry McGuire

To Catch A Predator...

"Mr. Shark, have a seat right over there," Chris Hansen from Dateline would say if he encountered the most dangerous predator of the seas. Instead of talking to the sharks, Capt. Larry & his fishing parties CATCH sharks- and a wide variety at that!

Tom Spouillon (alias Capt Nemo) is below
with a nice blacktip shark he caught recently using a live pinfish in about 115 ft waters, offshore of Anna Maria Island. Tom and the party also caught more sharks, grouper, snapper and amberjack while on their charter, and overall just had a fantastic, memorable time.

In the picture below (from left to right), is 13 yr old Riley Besecker from Buffalo, NY, with his feisty blacktip shark caught using a live pinfish. Assisting him with the holding of this blacktip beast is the first mate, Larry Bethke. THe party had been fishing in about 165 ft offshore off Anna Maria Island. All day long the anglers had been battling (AND caught) a nice mixture of yellowtail snapper & amberjack plus battled many larger sharks in the 250 lb range.

While on the same trip, 8 yr old Noah Besecker, also from Buffalo, is pictured below with his first flounder, caught near Coquina beach using a live grunt. Though not as impressive as a shark, flounder are fantastic eating, and in this case this flounder certainly qualifies as a "trophy"! The party had a great trip & caught a bounty of gag grouper and snapper offshore. However, it was when Capt. Larry stopped near the beach that Noah hooked this trophy flounder and a few sharks.
The fun these kids had on their fishing trip is almost tangible while looking at their happy faces in the pictures. Your son or daughter have a birthday coming up? Give them the gift that will have them grinning from ear to ear not only during the trip, but afterwards as well. What kid wouldn't want to catch something they can eat later & then tell stories about for years to come? It truly is the gift that keeps giving!

Keep your lines tight, hooks baited, & your mind on the prize, because the time to catch something amazing isn't tomorrow or the day after, but NOW!

Thanks,
Capt. Larry McGuire

Crab Crackin' To Help The Mackeral Attackin'

BIG NEWS for Show Me The Fish Charters: Capt. Larry is now operating out of a new location, the Bradenton Beach Marina; click the link to check out the new digs, or stop by if you're in the area. One thing that hasn't changed about Capt. Larry's charters is that the anglers are suffering sore muscles from big mack attacks! From young & new fishers, to experienced seasoned anglers, the invasion of king mackerel is serious business & requires more than a little effort! While fishing in about 40 ft to 70 ft waters, the parties have been catching this immense amount of king mackerel on a variety of live baits, as well as artificials... The schools- running about an average of 35 lbs, can't seem to satisfy their appetites! Each trip we seem to always hook into a few real smokers; it's not always an easy task when they are cutting through steel leaders, straightening hooks, busting up tackle... like rowdy teenagers, they're hungry & causing real chaos! Below is Stephenie Franco from Westfield, Indiana, with one of our first kingfish of the season, so congratulations are in order! This proud angler-ess caught her kingfish using a sardine, in about 50 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island.
We usually start out catching grouper and snapper as we are bottom fishing on a hotspot & deploy a chum bag (Capt. Larry's Tip: Anytime you get to crackin' open crabs or shrimp, save the shells and add to your chum.... the fish LOVE it like a special treat!), which always seems to draw the kings to the boat. Tip #2: always have a couple of flat lines with select live baits behind the boat to entice & hook the pelagics, make them come to you! When the flat lines go off- you'll know, as your reel drags will be screaming. On Show Me The Fish trips, it signals the start of a Chinese fire drill of sorts; pulling in all the other lines that were bottom fishing (usually several folks fighting grouper), so the angler on the kingfish [the running game] are able to fight it unobstructed, ensuring that the serious game fish is successfully caught! If someone tangles the angler up while (s)he is fighting a smoker, Capt. Larry throws down the flag on an interference call to protect the #winning. Below is Mary Johnson of Bradenton holding the mighty game fish. She caught this kingfish using a sardine about 40 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. Mary and that party also caught more kings, large gag grouper up to 25 lbs, red grouper and some tasty snapper.

Regularly Capt. Larry's also catching girnormous firetruck red grouper, as well huge gag (all while still staying inside 9 miles), cobias, amberjacks, & a variety of large sharks usually out past 100 ft along with tasty snappers, porgies, triggerfish and sea bass. The weather is sunny & perfect, the fishing is more than great which = "life is good!" Now is the time to come on out and get ya some of this wild and crazy action!

Thanks,
Capt. Larry McGuire

Kingfish & Cobia Cometh Again!

On Show Me The Fish Charters, Capt. Larry & company have caught their first cobia of the year! This momentous event happened on 3-24-11, in about 125 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island. While the party was catching snapper and amberjacks, a huge school of cobia came near the boat, and Capt. Larry cast a Zara Spook magnum surface lure to cobias... almost immediately the largest one grabbed the lure! The captain then handed off the pole to Bud Northway, from Clarence New Hampshire, for a serious fight AND what became the catch of a lifetime, all while using 25 lb monofilment line during a 45 minute battle royale. Below are the proud anglers, taking all three of the men to hold up this monster cobia caught by Bud Northway; he's on the left, with Stu Ambrose in the middle, assisting with the brute, and John Northway on the right. On that same trip we hooked up a 8 ft lemon shark, after an hour long battle with almost everyone taking turns on the beast of burden. Once one angler got tired, the rod would be passed to a buddy & they would take over for a while; now that's real extreme sports entertainment! Below is an approximately 75 lb amberjack that Chris Braun (left) caught, with an assist by Eric Smithman & Alex Braun (left to right), all from Bradenton, FL. These hard core anglers asked for big fish for their first offshore trip and their wish was more than granted! During that trip, the satisfied fishers were dropping line in about 200 ft using pinfish and also caught a plethora of snapper and large sharks.
Just a few days ago we encountered our first king Mack Attack(TM), with a school of kingfish swimming around the boat. Capt. Larry's party caught 8 kingfish, while fighting many more that got away to be caught another day. Some of our other special species caught on recent trips: Spanish mackerel, snappers and catch-and-release gag and red groupers. The kings are hitting around 50 to 60 ft and we are still fighting big amberjack, and a wide variety of sharks- blacktip, bull and lemon sharks up to 8 ft out past 100 ft offshore of Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key... Needless to say, this is a beautiful thing & exactly what we're looking for! Now is the time to come on out and enjoy paradise.

Thanks,
Capt. Larry McGuire
